Anyone living in Sonoma Valley will find plenty of places to shop and eateries to fulfill all your needs and desires. Sonoma county’s downtowns are all full of unique, locally-owned stores. Take regular strolls down Petaluma’s Iron-front buildings, a nationally registered historic location. Explore the more than 4,000 square feet of the Petaluma Military Antiques & Museum. Support Glen Ellen’s Jack London State Historic Park and study his life and novels. 

For dining in Sonoma County, become a regular at one of the many restaurants that source their ingredients locally. For example, Salt and Stone in Kenwood have a refined menu of food and wines. Oso Sonoma is a rustic and cozy bar in Sonoma city. The chef offers carefully chosen, locally sourced wine and a dynamic menu that keeps regulars surprised. 

Another choice, voted the best steak and happy hour by locals in 2019, is Seared. With a kitchen operated by Cordon Cordon Bleu Culinary program graduate Joe O’Donnell, this steakhouse and bar offer top-class dishes paired with carefully chosen wines, craft beers, and cocktails. This restaurant also supports the local art community with live music seven days a week.

Things to Do

Sonoma Valley is best known for its wine and the great outdoors. The valley is surrounded by miles and miles of rolling hills and mountains. Residents can traverse the trails and state parks like Sugarloaf Ridge State Park, which offers more than just hiking. Locals enjoy bike riding and horseback riding through the back-country trails. They can also do the same at the Jack London State Historic Park, which hosts an annual writing competition for middle-grade children. Locals gather to celebrate and support the future generation of authors at this event. 

Known as Wine Country, Sonoma Valley also has wineries dotting the countryside, many of which are owned by families. B. Wise Vineyard and Benziger Family Winery are both notable in the area. They offer private tours with wine tastings in various venues of their estates. One can discover how their favorite pinot or white wine is produced, and then they can sample the best selections. Another winery to note is Three Sticks Wines at the Adobe. With seasonal offerings, numerous vineyards, a wine club, and even virtual experiences, Three Sticks is considered one of the best wineries in the valley.
