Kenwood

A serene community of rich culture

Welcome to Kenwood

Kenwood, California, is a Sonoma Valley community wedged comfortably at Sugarloaf Mountain's base. The area sees moderate weather, with warm summers and cool winters. This allows the community’s long history and heritage of fine wine to continue. Residents and commuters will find going to Santa Rosa an easy 20-minute drive north along US Highway 12 east. This gives access to everything a resident would need.

As a small town, Kenwood is mostly a sparse suburban area with a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. Of course, the area has its share of shops, cafes, and parks residents support together. It also has a handful of unique places, such as Swede’s Feeds and Wildwood Nursery, that offer sights and products difficult to obtain elsewhere. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities ranging from private vineyard tours and wine tasting to hiking trails and horseback riding to keep residents active at all times of the year.

In Kenwood, residents will find plenty of outdoor activities, many in the Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. There is also a selection of excellent restaurants. Many locals looking for a dinner night out will find Salt and Stone and Cafe Citti to be popular choices.

Dining, Entertainment, & Shopping

Kenwood, California, offers many excellent local dining establishments and shops. Swede’s Feeds is a local store that is hard to miss when driving down US Highway 12. It provides unique sights before anyone reaches the store. This shop has plenty of one-of-a-kind items, from large metal animal and art structures welled from recycled materials outside to the artisan wine shelves crafted from recycled redwood wine barrels and staves.

Salt and Stone sources local ingredients to provide an excellent array of dishes with refined taste on the dining side. Naturally, they also have a selection of wine from the surrounding wineries that won’t disappoint. Cafe Citti is an Italian trattoria-style restaurant dating back to 1990. The owners, with direct and close relation to their roots in Italy, have brought their family recipes to residents of Kenwood and Santa Rosa.

Things to Do

One of the great parts of Kenwood is the outdoor activities. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park has hiking trails and trails for horseback riding for the more eager individuals and a quiet nature trail following the Sonoma Creek for more casual exploration. On clear days, the Sierra Nevada and Golden Gate Bridge can be seen from the peak of the 2,729-foot Bald Mountain. Aside from hiking and camping sites, anyone interested in astronomy can also find the Robert Ferguson Observatory, which provides year-round education and use of its four telescopes.

The Sonoma Valley is renowned for its wine, and Kenwood is at the north end of it all. To the west are plenty of vineyards with tours and wine tasting. B. Wise Vineyard offers tours through their estate caves that end in the salon, where select guests can experience the family’s taste in early 20th-century art and furniture while tasting the best wine selection available. Next door to this is En Garde, an establishment run by a fourth-generation winemaker from Hungary, Csaba Szakál. Wine here is made from fruit carefully sourced by the owner.
